Why You’ll Love It

hygger Hang-on-back Canister Filter with 3-stage filtration and anti-dry burn motor, adjustable flow, oil skimmer, duckbill nozzle, and spray bar for fish tanks ≤10 or 10-60 gallons. It’s 3 types of water outlet effects can also add functional effects other than filtration.

Key Features

Versatile Filtration System

The hygger 108 hang-on-back canister filter is equipped with three types of filter media and water outlets, offering additional functional effects beyond basic filtration. This HOB filter includes a duckbill nozzle, shower pipe, and outlet oil skimmer, making it suitable for freshwater and saltwater tanks.

Rain Shower Pipe Outlet

This drip pipe water outlet provides oxygenation and adds an aesthetic element to your tank. The dispersed water flow impacts the water surface, increasing oxygen levels.

Duckbill Head Water Outlet

This creates waves at multiple angles, with adjustable water flow direction for precise control.

Straight Outlet

This provides powerful water circulation with a large flow, ensuring effective movement of water in the tank.

Enhanced Filtration Features

This hang-on filter’s motor pump is housed within the cover, minimizing disturbance to fish with its fully enclosed filter box and vibration-absorbing fixed buckle. This results in quiet operation. The anti-dry burning design extends the life of the all-copper motor water pump.

The filter automatically shuts off if the temperature becomes too high, preventing damage to the pump from dry running. The height of the inlet pipe is adjustable, and the pipe at the bottom is covered with a sponge to prevent small fish and shrimp from being sucked in during operation.

Filtration Principle

Once the power is activated, the integrated pump initiates a filtered water cycle. Initially, dirty water is drawn from the bottom of the water inlet pipe, with a portion of water containing an oil film directed to the oil skimmer port. The water then proceeds to the filter chamber, where it traverses through three stages of filter media, completing the filtration process. Finally, clean water is expelled through the outlet pipe.

Ease of Use

The filter housing is designed not to be submerged in the tank, thus preserving the aquarium’s space, with only a single water inlet pipe inside. This makes it ideal for tanks with limited space, as well as for landscaped tanks featuring aquatic plants and stones, or for tanks with fish sensitive to motor noise. The filter can be mounted on the tank, with an adjustable fixing clamp suitable for rimless tanks or rimmed tanks with glass thickness up to 0.7 inches (18mm). Alternatively, it can be placed beside the fish tank without needing to be hung (when the tank’s height is the same as the filter’s height).

Usage Tips

1. The back canister filter is not suitable for low-water turtle tanks.

2. Plastic bracing/trim on rimmed tanks may interfere with clamp opening—please measure total rim width before purchasing.

Note: If air is in the pipes, you may initially experience noisy water flow when using it for the first time. This is normal and will subside after the system has been running for a while, as the air is expelled from the system.

Select the appropriate size:

hygger hang-on filter tanks are designed with a larger capacity for filter media compared to standard models.

Q: Why is my HG150 filter not working, with no water flow, and the water flow is reduced?
A: Please follow the steps to help resolve this issue:

First, check if the intake is clogged by any foreign objects.

Prime it correctly: The HG150 filter contains a lot of air because it was not primed correctly, resulting in a very weak flow. You need to not only add water to it through the intake tubing hole but also fill it by pouring water into the large filtration section.

Remove the large lid: you can remove the lid and rinse away any grit, check for twists/flattening, and re-seat it evenly before locking the lid down.

Expel air in the inlet and outlet hoses: There is air in the inlet and outlet hoses, which causes slow priming at start-up. The air in both the inlet and outlet hoses must be fully expelled.

Inspect for damage: While cleaning, also check the outlets or other parts for any signs of damage or wear. If it appears damaged or excessively clogged, replace it.

Remove any debris or buildup that might be obstructing the water flow. Check and rinse the filter media and impeller, shaft, and pump housing.
Please carefully remove the filter media and the impeller and shaft from the filter unit and rinse them thoroughly under running water. (You need to unscrew the screws to remove and clean the impeller and shaft.)

Reassemble and test: reassemble the filter and test it again.

Q: Why is my filter making noise when it operates?
A: Please be aware that the noise issue may occur within the first two days after installation. During the initial operation, the noise level may be relatively high for several hours, as it needs to expel all the air.

When encountering this issue, please wait for a few hours to see if the air in the pipes has been expelled and if the noise has been resolved.

If not, you can first remove the oil film float head and wait until all the air in the tank has been expelled before slowly reinstalling it. Then check if the air tube has been connected. If not, proceed with the installation.

Alternatively, you can reduce the water flow, wait for the air to be fully expelled, and then increase the flow again.  Once all the air in the filter cartridge and the hose has been expelled, the noise will disappear.

Q: What should I do if there are air/bubbles inside my filter?
A: For the first two days after installation, the new device will expel air, which is normal.

Please check the installation process again, and verify if any components were not fully installed or if any gaps are not fitting properly; it could potentially be the cause of the air/bubbles. Observe again after three days to see if it continues.

Works well. Easy to assemble and clean. Surface skimmer keeps the top of the water oil free. Plenty big compartment to add different kinds of filtration media. Extremely quiet!!

  1. Very quiet, quality, aquarium filter. Instructions are a little hard to read at first but it’s pretty easy to figure out. I am very satisfied with the product and I would purchase another if I needed to. I purchased this due to my hang on back filter being quite noisy. This filter is silent. I have many products from this company that have never let me down. I would recommend these products to my friends if I had any.

  2. I absolutely love this mini hang on back filter. I use it on my two gallon shrimp tank. I had a little trouble when I first installed it, trying to get the air bubbles out, but after a day or two of playing with it, I got it all sorted out. Great product and would order again.
