At the designated On Time, the light intensity will gradually increase to full brightness over 15 minutes. On the contrary, at the designated Off Time, it will gently decrease to off over another 15 minutes.
DIY Mode
1. The day is divided into 8 light time phases (L1 to L8), each with the ability to set individual time phases and customize color and brightness. Each phase will transition into the next by fading over a 15-minute interval, ensuring a seamless change in lighting.

The price of this light easily beats anything I’ve seen in stores—great value for the features you get. It does run a bit warm, so I wouldn’t recommend it for cold water setups. But for tropical or planted tanks, it absolutely gets the job done. Bright, reliable, and budget-friendly!
This is a well-built light with a lot of convenient and practical features packed in. The metal enclosure gives it a solid, durable feel with just the right amount of weight. It’s loaded with LED beads that easily provide more than enough brightness for my 20-gallon tank.
I actually ordered one size larger by mistake, but luckily it just fit—and I’m glad it did. The waterproof design is a major plus if you’re placing the light close to the water surface. With time, condensation and splashes are inevitable, so having a sealed unit adds real peace of mind.
The built-in scheduling is a great feature. It comes with preset 24/7 modes or you can customize everything through DIY mode. The remote can be a bit clunky at first, but give it 15 minutes and some patience—you’ll figure it out.
The light spectrum is perfect for planted tanks. My plants are pearling like crazy under this light! 🌿✨ I’m extremely happy with the performance.
If you’re thinking of saving a few bucks on a cheaper brand—don’t. I’ve gone down that road and regretted it. This is the light I should’ve gotten from the start.
For the price, this light delivers unbeatable value in brightness, color accuracy, and programmability. 🌿💡
Color Quality
The color rendering is excellent—I’d say the CRI is very good based on visual comparison. Colors appear natural and vibrant without being over-saturated. A simple white-wall test confirms it: the wall stays white, not tinted, which is always a good sign of balanced spectrum.
Features & Functionality
You get both factory and custom 24/7 modes, plus manual on/off scheduling. The 24/7 transitions are smooth and well-designed. For those running multiple tanks:
Pro: All lights can be programmed together using one remote, making mass adjustments easy.
Con: That same syncing means individual control is difficult if the lights are close together. Each light would need its own remote and needs to be kept at a good distance (about 25 ft) to avoid signal overlap.
Lighting Guidance for Planted Tanks
Here’s a helpful lighting breakdown based on tank front-to-back depth:
12″ depth
• Low–Med/High Light: 1 light
• High–Ultra High Light: 2 lights
18″ depth
• Low Light: 1 light
• Medium–Med/High Light: 2 lights
• High–Ultra High Light: 3 lights
Final Thoughts
This light doesn’t just compete with entry-level models—it punches well into mid- and even high-end territory. If you’re debating between this and a cheaper alternative, spend the extra $30. You’ll get way more than $30 worth of improvement in your tank’s appearance and health.
Lighting is what brings your aquascape to life—it shows off your hard work. Think long-term. Over a couple of years, you’re investing what amounts to $1/month for a tank that looks amazing instead of just “pretty good.” Your fish, plants, and eyes will thank you.
Just get it. You won’t regret it. ✅
The timer setup can be a bit tricky at first, but once you read the instructions carefully, it’s actually a really awesome feature. ⏱️ The lightning effect is a bit repetitive, but let’s be honest—that’s not why I bought this light anyway 😄
Overall, it’s a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their tank lighting with useful features and strong performance.
I added the HG016 to my Fluval Flex 15G, and it completely transformed the tank! 🌱 It helped me achieve the lush carpet of Staurogyne repens I was aiming for. Plant growth has been fantastic, and it really enhances the colors of my fish too.
The remote makes managing the light super convenient—especially when dealing with any algae breakouts. I also love the built-in day and night cycles; they add a natural rhythm to the tank and are visually stunning.
I’ve had the HG016 for a while now. While it’s definitely more budget-friendly than Fluval lights, it does come with some trade-offs. The light itself is decent, but the programming interface is unnecessarily complicated. Once you finally get it set up, there’s no memory backup—so if your power flickers during a storm, you’ll likely have to start over.
More recently, the remote has stopped communicating properly with the light, which is frustrating. I’ve had to resort to manually unplugging it at night and plugging it back in each morning. It’s a workable solution, but definitely not ideal.
If you’re looking for an affordable light with decent output, this might work—but be prepared for some quirks along the way.
There’s really nothing to dislike about this light—it’s been a great addition to my setup. The remote control is user-friendly and makes adjusting settings quick and simple. It has all the features you could want in an aquarium light: customizable brightness, timers, color options, and more. I’m very satisfied with the performance and would definitely buy it again without hesitation.
I absolutely love the ability to set the lighting schedule from sunrise to sunset—it creates such a natural rhythm for my tank. 🌞🌙 There are tons of settings and customization options to fine-tune the look and feel, whether you want a soft ambient glow or full brightness for plant growth. Overall, an awesome light that offers both flexibility and performance!
I picked up the HG016 for my new 60-gallon breeder tank. I’ve had decent luck with Hygger lights before—usually only needed to run them at 40–50% intensity to light a tank effectively. This time, I went with the largest size that would fit, expecting similar results.
Overall, it’s a solid light for the price, with great color options and a reliable remote. Mechanically, Hygger has always been dependable in my experience—no issues there.
That said, I do have two gripes:
Even with all colors at 100% intensity, it’s just not quite bright enough for this larger tank. I’ll likely need to add a second unit.
The programming feature is tricky. I haven’t been able to get it to work properly despite several attempts, which seems to be a recurring issue with Hygger lights.
Still, for the cost of two Hygger HG016s, I’m spending less than a single Fluval light—so the value is hard to beat. Great budget-friendly option with some room for improvement.
I love this light—it works beautifully on my planted tank. After the main light cycle, I like to customize it with a soft sunset or moonlight hue for a few hours, and the fish seem to really enjoy the calming atmosphere.
The built-in timers do function, but programming them can be a bit time-consuming and not the most intuitive process. Once set, though, they’re reliable. Despite that small hiccup, I’m very happy with the overall performance and would absolutely recommend it.
