Why You’ll Love It
The hygger 171 Eyeball Reef Light is a compact yet powerful 36W LED lighting system designed to replicate the beauty of ocean light within a reef aquarium. With a balanced full-spectrum output, three adjustable color modes, and accurate PAR distribution, it supports coral growth, enhances fish coloration, and recreates the natural brilliance of reef environments. Ideal for nano reef aquariums between 16–20 inches.

Its aluminum alloy housing ensures superior heat dissipation and durability, while the 360° flexible gooseneck offers effortless positioning for the perfect illumination angle. It delivers professional-grade lighting performance in a sleek, quiet, and easy-to-use design.
Key Features
Even PAR & High Output Lighting
The HG171 Eyeball Reef Light produces evenly distributed illumination with a carefully optimized LED spectrum. The result is consistent PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) at multiple depths:
– PAR 431 at 7 in
– PAR 182 at 12 in
– PAR 137 at 16 in
– PAR 93 at 19 in
This steady light intensity ensures balanced energy for coral photosynthesis and vibrant reef coloration throughout the tank.
Balanced Reef Spectrum Composition
With 30 high-efficiency LEDs, the reef light delivers a professional full spectrum:
– 3 white LEDs (6700K) for clarity and daylight simulation.
– 12 blue (453 nm) and 10 royal blue (465 nm) for coral fluorescence and zooxanthellae activity.
– 2 violet (415 nm) and 2 UV (395 nm) for enhanced pigmentation and growth.
– 1 red (660 nm) to highlight natural fish tones and balance the spectrum.
This precise color mix mimics the light found in shallow reefs, helping your corals and fish thrive in a natural, healthy environment.
Three Light Modes for Custom Ambience
– Blue Mode: Promotes coral fluorescence and highlights natural glowing pigments.
– Blue + White Mode: Combines depth and brightness, ideal for everyday viewing and coral feeding periods.
– Full Spectrum White Mode: Replicates natural sunlight for daily illumination and overall tank health.

External Controller with Timer and Brightness Adjustment
The smart external controller allows effortless customization:
– Light Modes: Switch between Full Spectrum, Blue, and Light Blue.
– Brightness Levels: Adjust to 10%, 32%, 55%, 77%, or 100%.
– Timer Settings: Choose automatic operation for 3H, 9H, or 12H.
– Simple Control: One-touch power and intuitive keys make it easy to set and forget.
This user-friendly system supports both coral photoperiod needs and your daily convenience.
Superior Heat Dissipation and Noiseless Operation
-Utilizes upgraded ball bearing fans, which outperform traditional oil-containing fans in both performance and lifespan.
-The ball bearing fans operate on rolling friction, resulting in a low friction coefficient, high speed, and thus better heat dissipation.
-Generates significantly lower noise levels and has a long service life, estimated at 60,000 to 100,000 hours.
Advanced Cooling System
The Eyeball Reef Light features an upgraded ball-bearing fan paired with an all-aluminum multi-fin cooling system. This dual-layer cooling structure maintains stable operation during extended lighting hours. The high-rotation fan provides exceptional airflow with minimal friction, extending LED life while maintaining whisper-quiet noise levels.

Premium Materials and Thoughtful Design
– The light head diameter is a compact, 3.58 in design that saves space while providing broad light coverage up to 24″x24″.
– Gooseneck flexibility has a 360° adjustable arm (13.4 in height) for precise positioning.
– The special anti-rust, flexible, full-aluminum oxidation bracket is suitable for coral tanks of various sizes.
– Operates below 35 dB, making it virtually silent in home or office settings.
– The oblate base effectively increases the contact area, providing stable support and protection for the coral reef tank. It is compatible with tank glass thicknesses ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 inches.
Usage Tips
1. Avoid Direct Moisture Contact
While the light is designed for marine environments, it is not fully waterproof. Ensure it is installed securely above the tank to prevent water splashes or leaks from reaching the electronics. Position the lamp 5–7 inches above the tank surface for best light spread and PAR efficiency.
2. For SPS corals, use two lights for optimal growth and color intensity.
3. Proper Installation & Ventilation
Use the included anti-rust aluminum bracket for stable mounting. Ensure adequate airflow around the light (especially if using multiple units) to maintain optimal heat dissipation and prolong lifespan. Avoid water splashes on the fan vent or controller.
4. Adjust Light Intensity for Coral Needs
For low-light SPS corals, consider using two lights for sufficient coverage. Use the dimmer/timer functions to mimic natural light cycles (e.g., 6-12 hours/day) and avoid sudden changes that may stress corals.

Great light for nano tanks I have mine on a 15 gallon tank it lights up the tank great I’m growing l.p.s. zoas and softies with it with no problem at all .it’s a great bang for your buck.
I have had this light for a number of months now and it is excellent for a nano tank. I have a 10 gallon I use it on where it sets 18-19 inches above the sand bed(6 inches above the water). Running at 77% with white and blue channels I get a par of about 80 give or take a bit at the sand bed. If I turn it to full I get about 130 give or take a small amount at the sand bed. I get much more near the top of my rock work with it peaking 250-300 at 77% ~12 inches from the light. More than enough to grow sps. If growing lps or soft corals, the lower settings are great, too. I have a birdsnest coral that’s been in my tank for a little while now and the color has just kept improving with this light and I get great polyp extension. I got new coral frags the other day and they’re enjoying the light. I would like to see a more robust timer incorporated into the light, as I currently have to turn it on at the time I want it to come on to set it, instead of being able to set the timer whenever, as well as I would like to adjust my photo period to outside of the three presets there are(6, 9, and 12 hours), but considering this light is 45 bucks and can grow sps and allow them to be healthy, I can’t complain about that much as it is only a minor thing. However, I would be willing to pay a bit more for a model that came with a more versatile timer as it would really round out this light. That said, I wouldn’t discourage anyone from getting this light just due to the timer it does have as it really is an excellent light, and I do plan on getting another at some point for a different tank.
I’ve been using the Hygger 36W Saltwater Aquarium Light on my 5-gallon rimless tank, and wow, it’s a total win for my mini reef! This light brings out the best in my corals and fish—the adjustable color and brightness settings let me dial in just the right vibe, making my zoas and small coral frags absolutely pop with color. The full spectrum is a dream for such a compact setup, and the timer feature is clutch—I love not having to fuss with schedules; it just runs like clockwork. For a tiny tank like mine, the coverage is more than enough, giving everything a healthy, vibrant glow.
The controller is pretty basic, nothing too flashy, but it works fine for tweaking settings on the fly. The fan does hum a bit, which I notice in my quiet space, but it’s not a big deal—keeps the unit cool, which is key for longevity. For a 5-gallon rimless, this light is honestly overkill in the best way possible—my tank’s never looked better, and my corals are loving life. Super affordable for the quality, too. This is a no-brainer upgrade if you’ve got a small saltwater setup. 5 stars from me!
