  1. The build quality of this light is excellent—I really love the overall design and performance. The brightness and color output are impressive, and it gives my tank a vibrant look.

That said, I’m giving it 4 stars because it doesn’t quite fit standard rimmed tanks as expected. The mounting screws don’t reach properly due to the trim, which makes installation a bit tricky. This light is clearly better suited for rimless tanks, where it fits perfectly without any hassle.

Despite this minor issue, I’m still very happy with the purchase and confident I’ll find a way to make it work with my setup. For anyone with a rimless aquarium, this light is a fantastic choice—you won’t be disappointed!

  2. Hygger offers an excellent entry-level aquarium light that delivers solid performance without breaking the bank. While there are cheaper alternatives out there, they may not provide the output or spectrum needed for planted tanks—meaning you’ll likely end up upgrading anyway. If you don’t have live plants, those budget options might suffice. But for planted aquariums, you’ll want a full-spectrum light with decent intensity, and this one checks the boxes.

It fits both rimmed and rimless tanks with a convenient clip-on design. The built-in timer is a nice touch, though the interface could be more user-friendly. One drawback is the lack of a “permanently on” setting, which limits compatibility with external timers. Also, the light sits higher above the tank than some may prefer—an adjustable mounting height would be a welcome upgrade.

That said, this is still a dependable, well-built light. While it won’t compete with premium brands like Fluval, ONF, Twinstar, ADA, or Chihiros, it’s a fantastic value for the price and a great option for beginners or budget-conscious hobbyists.

Highly recommended for anyone starting out with planted tanks! 🌿💡🐟

  3. The quality is very good considering the price. The light works perfectly, illuminates the aquarium well, and feels durable. Without a doubt, this is an excellent option for those looking for high performance without spending too much.

  4. I previously purchased two 12″ Hygger 24/7 aquarium lights, and they were fantastic. Just press the 24/7 button, set the current time, and you’re good to go—sunrise, daylight, and moonlight all cycle automatically. I absolutely loved the simplicity of that setup.

Now I’ve added two more lights to my collection: the HG018-42 and HG018-22. While these are also marketed as 24/7 lights, the experience is quite different. There’s no dedicated 24/7 button, and setting up the light schedule is more manual. You have to program the daylight and moonlight phases separately, which feels less intuitive compared to the older models.

As with many products made in China, the instructions weren’t very helpful—vague and lacking detail. It would be great if Hygger standardized the programming interface across all their 24/7 lights.

That said, they’re still quality aquarium lights with great performance. I’m confident that, with a bit more tinkering, I’ll figure out how to get them running the way I like—just like their smaller counterparts.

  5. This light works beautifully and was incredibly easy to install. It fits perfectly on my tank, and the brightness is just right for my aquatic plants. Great quality and hassle-free setup—highly recommend!

  6. Love how this light brightens up the entire aquarium! The colors look vibrant, and the tank has a fresh, lively glow. It really brings out the beauty of my fish and plants. Simple, effective, and well worth it.

  7. This is the Hygger 42W 24/7 clip-on light. It arrived earlier than expected and was well packaged. For the price, it’s a solid entry-level option for planted tanks.

My tank is a 77-gallon, 60″ long setup that’s been running for 43 years—it has a rim all the way around, so the light didn’t fit at first. With a small modification to the tank lip, I was able to get it clipped on securely. The light itself performs great, offering excellent brightness and a full spectrum that works well for plants.

The only downside is the mounting brackets—they’re made of cheap plastic and one of mine broke soon after setup.

I reached out to Hygger’s customer service about the broken bracket. They responded the next day, requested my transaction number, and without any hassle, shipped two replacement brackets. I received them today. Absolutely outstanding customer service—updating to 5 stars for sure!

  8. Installation was a bit tricky due to the rim on my aquarium—it took some patience to get the light securely in place. That said, once installed, the HG018 has worked beautifully. Bright, reliable, and a great fit for my setup. Overall, very happy with this product!

  9. For the price, the HG018 is a great light—very bright with tons of color and setting options. The 24/7 timer feature is what really sold me. It can be a little tricky to set up at first, but once it’s programmed, it works smoothly. Hygger continues to impress with their quality products.

That said, I do have two small suggestions:

I wish Hygger offered an extended mounting option for those of us who prefer the light to sit a bit higher above the tank.

The power cord placement could be improved—it’s currently attached to the side of the light, even though the unit mounts from the back. A rear-centered cord would make for a cleaner setup.

Despite those minor gripes, this is still a fantastic light and definitely worth the investment.

  10. The HG018 works really well—simple, reliable, and does exactly what I need for my aquarium setup. No complaints so far!
